Perhaps its just me but when I hit that sound bar on the modern record shop its always delightful when something fills your ears that is original. Sad Horse make a terrific sound of Road Trip rhythms , stripped down , very stripped down, it’s just two people - drums & guitar, on a ride across country plains with pissed off female vocal. It’s a little more creative, (a lot more creative, depending where your music comes from) than the run of the mill syrup than congeals airwaves across the globe. The more I listen to this the more I’m swept away in its raw delivery. Way back in 1976 I decided I wasn’t going to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody & Stairway To Heaven regurgitated 4 times a day for the next Fifty years. & I’m all the better for it. But you can’t help but question the mentality of people that are OK with this? I try not to get tied up in Tags, although Art Punk does suit this duo, an LP ( I didn’t even know it was on vinyl ) of delicious tracks on tracks across the country which ends in a cool church somewhere down south Purple on Purple makes Purple . A Rare gem of “ Less is More ” box of candy. I like! -- James Dixon
"Sad Horse is a two piece with just drums guitars and vocals, but with these few tools they create memorable compositions. For the past 7 years, Sad Horse has released tracks on the most underground of cassette and LP labels. Their music is savagely joyful -- Geoff Soul and Elizabeth Venable trading screechy enthusiastic vocals, the guitar whirling through songs as concise as possible, the drums clanging and banging. This is the real underground sound of Portland. A compilation of the best moments of their recordings from small cassette releases. Co-release with Eggy Records." |
