PORTLAND OREGON SURF!!!  2026.  This kicks it off lightning fast with the title track, launching you off into the Pacific with that island drumming (via Hawaii Five-0) and deep into the green rooms of the big curls, heart pounding, board slapping summer waves...the second cut "Skinwalker" maybe alluding to the malevolent character of the Navajo tradition, but to me the song sounding like it's pushing you under the surf, submerging you into sunlit seaweed like when the beautiful yellow flying submarine on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea dives deep into the ocean blue, the song drenched in organ and the soggiest guitar, bubbling back up to the surface like James Bond where "Let's Boogie" hits the ground running, bare feet slapping wet sand as you try to outrun the angry headhunters like Kirk Douglas hollering at Peter Lorre in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...leading you to the final cut to explore the more reflective side of surf (while keeping a fairly fast pace), pushing your extended-play odyssey to the far reaches of the world where few mortals dare tread, deep into the desolate cave of the lonely Gorgon, a sympathetic portrait of this feared creature who can turn you to stone with only a glance, a wonderful conclusion to this stellar EP from the Valiants.  -- winch
