While Wild Honey often celebrates the power pop (the name an obvious nod to the Beach Boys), the Italian label often features bands that offer songs with equal parts punk and power pop (without going into what I typically think of as pop punk), and the label also doesn't sway away from the garage rock and raw punk, as shown with many of their recent releases (including the glorious 7" from the legendary Detroit band The Gories)...but The Bad Plug's loud, raw, and frantic take on synth garage punk perhaps shows the label's most abrasive sound. This keeps all four paws on the ground and scratches at the pavement, and if pop songs exist in the hearts of these animals, a cyclone has downed power lines on their skulls, and in a frantic to get loose, the creatures get tangled up in a mess of barbed and bare wires. Drop me down to the cement in cage at the zoo, and give me more junk like this. I love this shit. -- winch
The Bad Plug’s vinyl debut, five songs packed into a 7" EP, a sonic journey through the most unsettling sides of everyday life. It kicks off with Old Bastard, giving voice to the frustration of a suffocating job. Then comes a wild deconstruction of Macho Man by the Village People, twisting the celebration of masculinity. Gravedigger follows the story of a greedy and ruthless gravedigger who finds his only life aspiration in his work. The nightmare continues on the flipside with Moonflower Fields and Hot Bald Gold. A sonic experience that plays with the body, self-perception, and cynicism, blending the grotesque and the sublime into an explosion of energy. The Milan-based synth-punk band doesn’t just make noise—they tear it apart, reassemble it poorly, and throw it in your face. Their songs speak of monsters, obsessions, and a Milan falling apart. Sharp-edged and relentless, The Bad Plug will haunt you with their abrasive sound.
