Dance craze created a million + 2 dances and songs to go with them and "The Twist" all by itself was responsible for 2 thousand of them, dances and songs, the original tune often credited to Chubby Checker, but actually made in Detroit in the 1950s by Hank Ballard & the Midnighters, the man and the band who were rock n rolling along long before white folks caught on to that bumper, The Twist leading to the Peppermint Twist (Joey Dee and the Starlighters), Soul Twist (King Curtis), Twistin' Postman (the Marvelettes), Bristol Twistin' Annie (the Dovells), The Basie Twist (Count Basie), Tequila Twist (the Champs), Twistin' Matilda (Jimmy Soul), The Hully Gully Twist (Bill Doggett), Twistin' Bells (Santo and Johnny), Twist & Shout and Twistin' With Linda (the Isley Brothers), Twistin' USA (Danny and the Juniors), Percolator Twist (Billy Joe and the Checkmates), Twist, Twist Senora (Gary U.S. Bonds), Hava Nagila Twist...even Sam Cooke was Twistin the Night Away...and the Twist would resurface through the decades, with the Fat Boys...Salt-N-Pepa...but I think this is the first time (outside of maybe the rumbles with the Socs or the Ducky Boys) we had the "Switchblade Twist"!  And it's a doozy, essential slab a' wax of sleaze n' stomp rock n roll from Wesley & the Boys coming around the curb and at you in an old rust-bucket Buick with the curb feelers scraping concrete down around Trashville USA, Nashville, Tennessee...so rip that fishbone from the jaws of that alley cat and wave it around like a stripper waving her boa.   When it looks like you wanna give it up and give up the ghost, just go down to Tennessee and them folks will resurrect the bones of the witchdoctors of days gone by and your soul will be saved again.  --winch
