PANDORA - SPACE AMAZON [1974 NYC LP + 7" and booklet] – New LP

Regular price $ 32.00 $ 0.00

New York City’s Pandora with recordings from 1974.  It seems like a mix of glam, cock rock, underground and hard rock influences, probably Bowie, Humble Pie, and The Who, and maybe T Rex, Sonny Vincent, Slade, Zeppelin, MC5, Mountain, the Yardbirds, and Black Oak Arkansas... full of excess but some focus sometimes, the closer "Leather Boys" departing from the cuts that preceded it, and sounding like a Bolan/Bowie-influenced gay-teen anthem. While this band's sound is sort of all its own, and they sound exactly like they look, it smells a bit like Canada (maybe mixed with a little Australia) in the mid 1970s, sort of a mix of Max Webster, Trooper, Goddo, and the first Rush album from 1974, and closest comparison might be the East Coast glam/hard band Starz (who was called Fallen Angel in 1974), but likely nobody knows anything about that band (or most of those Canadian bands mentioned) so that doesn't help much.  -- winch

"Pandora echoed of stardom with dynamic rhythms, fuzz-drenched guitar dexterity, and flamboyant, vigorous vocals. A world class group with members of Plum Nelly, Black Widow, David Johansen, Twisted Sister, and The Demons. 10 songs engineered by Joe Battaglia (Granicus) meticulously remastered by Audu Obaje. Detailed 16pg booklet with bio / photos.

“majestic Who-like power chords, Zeppelinesque panache
, plaster-cracking castrato vocals and poetic Spiders from Mars lyrics” - Doug Sheppard / Ugly Things.

“solid, spangled raunch far truer to the spirit of the era than the Kiss reunion tour was, with a garage spunk that’s more white-punks-on-hope than 8-track flashback” - David Fricke / Rolling Stone Magazine.

Fully authorized and on vinyl for the first time. LP + EP. 700 copies.
