LOOSE LIPS – LOVE YOU - New 7"

Regular price $ 15.00 $ 0.00
A mighty fine trio from Melbourne have applied the Ramones’ theory with no little finesse. Loose Lips have a pretty fine pedigree - guitarist Josh Hardy plays in smoko champs The Chats; bassist Ethan Stahl used to live in the UK, where he served time in London pub rockers Chubby & The Gang; and drummer Nadine Muller also makes a hell of a racket with Drunken Sailor’ powerpop titans The Prize. But the one thing they all have in common is a love of three things: classic pop like The Shirelles and The Shangri-Las, pummelling garage clatter a la The Standells, and good old-fashioned punk rock in the vein of the New York Dolls and The Scientists. Put all these influences together with an uncanny knack for hooks and… well, yes, power, and you’ve a recipe for magic.

‘Love You’, their new four-tracker for Drunken Sailor, is definitely their finest work yet. Opener ‘Beehive’ sounds like Chris Bailey and Ed Kuepper took way too much speed in the Brill Building, while ‘Looking For’ and ‘Remember We Love You’ bend effortless melody into wiry but pointedly powerful rhythms to make a concoction J.J. O’Neill would’ve desperately loved to chug. Then there’s ‘Tired Of Toein’ The Line’, an absolute all-timer that soars and swoops from a vigorous singalong into guitar lines that Chris Stein must’ve lost down the back of a sofa in the Australian state of Victoria, shortly before these guys unearthed ‘em. It’s catchy, it’s classic, it’s coming out of your speakers and setting off firecrackers in your exhaust pipe. What are you waiting for? Get it! -- Will Fitzpatrick.
