SÁVILA – MAYAHUEL - New LP
Savila is a medicinal plant that grows wild in tropical climates all over the world as well as the name of cumbia/latin/world/r&b inspired music and visual art project by guitarist Fabiola Reyna, vocalist Brisa Gonzalez and percussionist extraordinaire Papi Fimbres.
Mayahuel is based on time spent prior to the pandemic, immersed in the music, traditions, people and environment of the sacred place we know as Oaxaca. A lot of these songs are inclusive of collaborations with musicians we met along the way, incorporating pre-hispanic percussion elements and field recordings from the sounds of the streets, mountain tops, and flowing water that we encountered during our time there. These songs are a reflection on what we encountered, evolved and evolving as we explore the genre of Ancestral Club—music from our ancestors, made for the club. released 2021. Featuring: Brisa Gonzalez (vocals, percussion), Papi Fimbres (drums, percussion), Fabiola Reyna (guitar, bass, synth), Sylvia Maria (transition)
Pocoapoco (hosts), Pablo Marquez-Pasotono Orquestra (percussion), Mayahuel (spirit), Arbol de Tule (life), Antonio Zamudio (Balafon).
