Neon Indian’s third album showed founder Alan Palomo embracing every fluorescent color of the ’80s music scene to create a synth-pop masterpiece. Fans and critics were dazzled by a unique melding of influences from The Police to Prince to Blondie and The Tom Tom Club, landing Vega Intl. Night School in the best-of lists from Pitchfork, Complex, Under The Radar, and others.
Neon Indian is an indie electronic act from Denton, Texas. The music is composed by Mexican-born Alan Palomo (born July 24, 1988).
The name Neon Indian was conceived by an ex-girlfriend of Palomo's, who was also the subject of their song "Should Have Taken Acid With You." The song was originally presented as a musical apology for a missed acid date. Her positive reaction to the song spurred Palomo to continue writing more songs as Neon Indian.
As of 2023 the project “Neon Indian” was officially concluded as a result of Alan Palomo letting go the Neon Indian moniker and ideas he had with it in 2019. After the pandemic he instead came up with a new idea to release his new LP under his full given name Alan Palomo, and finally was able to put the whole album to the studio during summer 2021 and finished it off in 2022.
In 2023, along with announcing the LP to release at the end of summer in full after a couple singles, he announced touring in the fall which will be as “Alan Palomo Live,” going forward with mostly the same people that were in the band. This marks a new era and set direction, and “Toyota Man,” remains the last of the Neon Indian project hinting the sound Alan Palomo was looking for.
