Dos - Justamente Tres [TEAL VINYL] - NEW LP
Focusing on the instrumental, but also some vocal cuts, the instrumental reminding me a bit of Chet Atkins (both his solo and duo albums), as like Chet this has a warm inviting quality, is full of mid-tempo melancholy and down-home charm even though it's kind of jazzy.
Les and Mary Paul might have been an influence (as they sounded more urban than Chet), as were perhaps the progressive English folk of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the noncommercial American folk singers and guitarists from the same era, both bass players and piano players from jazz, and bassists from the world black music. I'm not sure who helped inspire Kira's singing, likely both American and European jazz singers from decades past, maybe a bit of rickie lee jones (who was of course influenced heavily from the previously mentioned past), and probably mostly just from her own experiences and innards. While most would be looking for punk rock when they see these two names, this is likely pretty far from those expectations, but it's pretty enjoyable. It's good to see some of these 1990s CD releases get the vinyl treatment they always deserved. -- winch (green noise)
