Spring/Summer 2026! DownJazz Records announces This Is Neo-Soul, the new album from keyboardist, composer, and longtime Roy Ayers musical director Mark Adams. Featuring 15 veterans from the Roy Ayers, Chic, Lonnie Liston Smith, Luther Vandross, Gloria Gaynor, Gil Scott-Heron, and Chaka Khan circles, the ten-track album pushes Adams’ rare-groove language into a modern frame shaped by gospel harmony, jazz-fusion drive, dance-floor energy, and electronic texture. With standout performances from Kimberly Davis, Monte Croft, Steve Kroon, Dave Mullins, Kenyatta Beasley, the record reimagines Ayers staples (“Don’t Stop,” “Vibrations,” “Sweet Tears”), introduces new material, and highlights Adams’ role as a true heir to the neo-soul lineage.
