Drunk Dial #8 - The Dumpies [BLACK VINYL Marked Down!] - New 7"

Regular price $ 4.20 $ 0.00

Here at Green Noise, we're always hyped and excited to be part of this ongoing Drunk Dial punk-rock experiment/experience and always so anxious to hear the results, and this one clearly tips the scales into territory called great shit, the band obviously knowing the lessons of making punk records, making them alive with excitement and sounds like their live shows while not making it worse by trying to make it better, this latest from the Dumpies really nails it, captures that idea, and captures the intent of Drunk Dial to get music right from the guts of the band into the grooves of the concise format of a 7" record, packing side A with 3 cuts like the best moments from a live show before settling into the long song (2 minutes and five seconds!) with a cover of West Coast Experimental Pop Art Band's classic "I Won't Hurt You"  (Michael Lloyd, Shaun Harris, Bob Markley) from 1966 (55 years ago!!! and made popular again with its inclusion in Isle of Dogs soundtrack), not really faithful, but drunkenly respectful (and while the following comment is not meant as a jab at the classic original, thankfully this cover version is a bit more playful), all of this 7" exciting and inviting as an unannounced show at your local bar, the band making a promise that this was going to a good at the launch of the A side and keeping that promise through the end of the flipside (but maybe they didn't keep the promise of the lyrics of "I Won't Hurt You" because it sounds like she might have gotten hurt with the broken glass of the broken bottles at the end.)

For those who don’t know, here’s how Drunk Dial Records operates: we invite artists we adore into a recording studio to write and record an original song and cover a classic tune in one session.  But there’s a catch! The artist or band in question must compose and perform these songs while inebriated. The recordings are then released as a 7” vinyl single.
