Drunk Dial #7 - Careful [black vinyl MARKED DOWN!] - New 7"
.
Another gem from Drunk Dial, the buzz materials just giving this a healthy dose of carefree and top-down cool breeze, racing along like a three-speed on its way to the swimming hole by your best friend's house, the original and the cover fitting together like a chain on a sprocket, on a bike built in the middle of summer in the mid 1970s in upper middle America (including Canada cuz that's part of North America), but completely covered with a fresh paint applied in the 1990s, the B-side a cover of "Ingrown" by the Australian indie rock and pop trio Smudge, almost faithful but also escaping from the clouds that kept the sun from shining on that decade, punching through the melancholy that managed to even touch an Aussie indie-rock/power pop band, both sides of this 7" full of that power-pop punch you love so much. Careful features Dave Williams (Crusades, Sedatives & Adamyk Band) from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Canada Rocks! (While I've never heard anybody talk about it, I have a genre I call Canada Rock, that starts circa 1970, borrows heavily from other pop and rock genres but moves along in it's own lane though the 1970s and 1980s, and informs a lot of the Canadian rock of the 1990s and even the Canadian pop-punk of the 21st century. This single helps bring it back to the earlier times, to the 1990s at the very least.)
"Pop/rock ala Lemonheads, Blake Babies, Smudge, Dino Jr & the 90s CanRock heyday." -- Dave Williams
For those who don’t know, here’s how Drunk Dial Records operates: we invite artists we adore into a recording studio to write and record an original song and cover a classic tune in one session. But there’s a catch! The artist or band in question must compose and perform these songs while inebriated. The recordings are then released as a 7” vinyl single.
