More spontaneous free-wheeling magic from Drunk Dial Records, this one marks one dozen for the series, Drunk Dial #12 from Gentleman Jesse (Atlanta), as always including an original and a cover, both sides sounding like they were recorded in a basement surrounded with beer cans and wine bottles...sounding like that because they were!
A: "Where Time Stands Still"
A: "Where Time Stands Still"
Written and recorded on the spot while drunk.
B: "Return of the Mack"
A cover of the Mark Morrison song from the 1996 album 'Return of the Mack.'
These songs were recorded January 29th, 2023 in Jesse's basement. The three of us came up with "Where Time Stands Still" that afternoon and decided to take a stab at the 90's New Jack banger "Return of the Mack". We listened to a chopped and screwed version to set the tempo and sipped on French Rosé. Once the songs started to take shape, we cracked open some German lagers and got to tracking. The pizza got ordered during overdubs. Finally, it was time for vocals and Tip Top Old Fashioineds. Things got pretty fuzzy after that.
"For those who don’t know, here’s how Drunk Dial Records operates: we invite artists we adore into a recording studio to write and record an original song and cover a classic tune in one session. But there’s a catch! The artist or band in question must compose and perform these songs while inebriated. The recordings are then released as a 7” vinyl single."
