Jenny Don't and the Spurs - Singles Roundup - New LP

Buying records at thrift stores and yard sales (hey, get this bin of records out the sun!), I quickly realized that not only did the PNW love hillbilly,  they had great taste, and had a long history of creating their own unique and often wonderful brand of country and western.  I also remember when The Detroit Cobras launched into a hillbilly song at a Portland dive and how quickly Rachel Nagy noticed how the crowd transformed into something similar to what she'd likely seen in other towns launching into a particular R&B song, and shouted in jubilee "I knew it, you Portland people are a bunch of hillbillies!"  And since it was the Cobras kicking it out, while the crowd at first rejected the idea What?! No,  they soon returned to what Rachel had witnessed as she had first launched into the song,  let all those inhibitions go and embraced the song and themselves...and when that happens in the studio, Oregonians create some really wonderful western music, and Jenny Don't and the boys definitely continues that legacy and create music simply wonderful, which should come as no surprise once you see who plays in this band, a sampling of who's who who's really great in Puddletown, USA.  While likely the youngest of the bunch, Jenny is at the center of this universe, the band backing her up just wonderful, driving it and accenting everything Jenny does but never getting in her way, as comes as no surprise because maybe that's one of the greatest thing about this legacy and expectations of Oregon music--even if you are an amazing and integral part of this musical legacy, keep that ego in check so it's not about the musician and all about the song.  -- winch (green noise)
