Otitis Media Records
Outstanding set of instrumental surf from Brazil, sinking their teeth deep into it from the get-go, nailing it down into a tight rhythm, moving along like greased lightning, the ocean boiling and the feet finding their footing, cutting into it, the board speed wobbling as you duck and dart into the curl, the sounds of salted intensity, the second cut more footloose celebratory but still cooking with gas, cutting out a groove, hip-shaking down the boardwalk to the sounds of gypsy jazz and rock and roll, closing with a number that feels like the setting sun, reflective with memories of warm 1966 summers, Morricone deserts and endless shores of the Sandals, driving the woody home down the highway along the shore, maybe parking to paddle out as the sun sinks into the surf, easing into it but slowly building tension and release, riding that last wave for all its got, truly great ending to a truly great set. It's amazing that bands can scoop up these ingredients from more than a half of a century ago, put on the pots and cook them up into something that comes out so fresh...it's amazing that a band can pack so much into the grooves of one 7" slap of vinyl. -- winch (green noise)
