1978 was a pretty tough year for bands like Queen, ones that had been slowly finding a bigger and bigger audience through the 1970s, and by 1977 were headlining arenas and finding plenty of airplay, both with the more hit-oriented stations and the FM rock stations.  What do you do when you've reached the top?  This didn't seem to be a problem for Queen, this album giving fans more of what they love and also offering another album that seemed cohesive, consistent and unique.  While "Don't Stop Me Now" and especially "Fun It"  hint toward the change in direction we'd witness this band take in the 1980s, this (along with the live set from the 1978 tour) served as a bookend for their 1970s output.  (An output that included 7 albums in about 5 years time, recordings that lasted the test of time so much better than most of the "classic rock" albums from this era).  While "Fat Bottom Girls" /  "Bicycle Race" would become one of those immensely popular two-part players on FM stations, this album wasn't embraced quite as much as some of their sets in the States, with one of their now best-known anthems "Don't Stop Me Now" only reaching #86 when released in 1978.  Some might argue that this is not their best album (what is?), but it's another essential grab for fans, full of familiar numbers and plenty of oddball cuts that you'll likely only find here.
