Microphones '81!!! (I think that's the translation...I assume the word has a slightly different meaning in USSR 1981.
Most of the songs are written by the same songwriters...so while maybe "Various" is accurate, it's not like a K-Tel Various Artists comp....it's a Latvian group or program with many different singers. "Recordings for Latvian Radio 1981." It's a TV/Radio show I think.
..."I Love You Like..." features a male vocalist alternating between singing/talking and just talking (there's a lot of that on these songs...which probably suggests this is a soundtrack to a story), with a deep sort of Herman monster/Igor/monster mash/Vincent Price voice and backed with unique/cool bubbly synth--it's nothing amazing, but more closer to what I was hoping for with fingers crossed. (I don't think he's trying to be scary or funny with the voice: I think that's just his voice....I think it's a serious song about something like love..)
... "You Laughed in a Dream" is kind of cool, over the top pop with cool female back up singers and cool instrumentations, lots of synth, maybe a rhythm guitar (or something)...
...one song is tribute to Joe Dassin (French singer who died in 1980)
"The Comeback" sounds like French cabaret mixed with some disco...sung in French I think...kind of enjoyable... (all this focus on French makes me wonder....)
