ohio never ceases to amaze me. some compare this band to bands from other lands, but to me, it sounds like ohio, a bridge from the different underground sounds of ohio in the 1970s (and perhaps by default VU) to ohio of the 21st century. Perhaps much more importantly, this band offers nonstop variety, and stands alone a bit like a drifter pausing under the streetlight at 3 AM when you wake half-awake and fully aware to hear the stranger talking loudly to themselves...an uneasiness and menace running through the various tempos seems somehow welcoming, opening your own door to let you out. underneath the noisy and experimental, some grimy pop can be found. It's easy to call this odd, but what's really odd is that we think of a band like this as odd. That's what I think, and I think I'm right. If you enjoy and seek bands that refuse to get stuck in the expectations of others, and probably even avoiding getting clogged up their own intentions, and certainly refusing to bow down to attract radio stations or mainstream labels (or even many punk labels), this is worth checking out. -- winch
One of three V-3 reissues, the legendary Columbus, Ohio band that featured Jim Shepard and Nudge Squidfish.
"I was focused on trying to keep the balance between our love of exploration and our focus on creating what I would call weirdo pop. Roxanne on the other hand focused more on the substance. She never got credit for her achievement."—Nudge Squidfish
"Hit Dead Center ranges from the experimental to weirdo outsider bedroom pop to, at times, an almost haunting, goth approach, most effective when handled by vocalist Roxanne Newman."
