Shaw, Marlena – Let Me In Your Life – Used
Originally a jazz singer, Shaw always was comfortable mixing styles, and this obscure album on the short-lived L.A. label South Bay fits into the 80s sound. Thanks to Shaw and the musicians involved it houses some adorable pop funk. The album apparently features two sessions, one for Side One and the other for Side Two, Johnny Bristol produces the first side, Webster Lewis the second. James Jamerson Jr.'s bassline powers the first side along, and Nathan Watts bassline does the same on Side Two, but as the album progresses, the sound often moves into a more mature uptown R&B sounds, which will likely please fans of her earlier work, but it's the 80s pop-funk numbers that make this enjoyable.
