Realization Orchestra - Realization one sided LP
NEW. San Francisco garage rocker Mikal Cronin (Moonhearts, Ty Segall; Bass,) San Diego math-prog youngbloods Evan Backer (Witt; Drums,) and George Pritzker (Japandi, Miniature Tree; Guitar,) Mid-Western avant-garde saxophonist Matty Harris, and New England guitar virtuoso Jon Olmstead join with Atlantas experimental rock pioneer Eliot Eidelman (Guitar) to record REALIZATION, an epic13-minute suite of universe-rattling garage prog. The music transcends genre distinctions by traversing the disparate landscape of modern popular (and unpopular) stylesfrom free jazz to funkat breakneck speeds, interweaving strains of rigorously-crafted written material with blistering, soulful punk-gospel improvisation to create a cinematic, post-apocalyptic sonic tapestry that is as primal as it is complex. The musicians navigate the structural obstacle course of the triptych suitewhich develops on the shape-shifting, rule-bending musical languages of predecessors such as Captain Beefheart, King Crimson, The Minutemen, Charles Mingus, and Ornette Colemanwith acrobatic improvisational ability, always landing together right on the dime just when it seems theyve completely spiraled out of control. The level of passionate energy displayed in their live performances and on the debut record, a limited edition one-sided 12 with a custom art etching adorning the back face, surpasses many a hardcore punk band, while the breadth of musical information emitted per unit of time is rivaled only by the media-overloaded wastelands of cyberspace. REALIZATION was recorded at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles, where the group formed in the undergraduate music composition program. The record was mixed by fellow CalArtian Steve Touchton of XBXRX and KIT fame at Denver Dome and mastered by avant-rock legend Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers) at ugEXPLODE in Brooklyn. The Eliot Eidelman REALIZATION ORCHESTRA will commence a 3-week West Coast tour with CalArts thrash-jazz group Stupid Man Suit on July 1, 2011, and will record a follow-up album shortly afterward.
