Recorded in the band's home studio, ALLVAR was originally released in 2011, and only available in North America in a very limited quantity ahead of a U.S. tour. Man In Decline is proud to now make this amazing LP more widely available to fans on this side of the Atlantic. Since it's initial release, Allvar has been praised for the strength of the songwriting, the dynamic and varied tracks, and the production which allowed for the punk grit to come through while at the same time showcased the musicianship of the band. A gig that was proof of how music can grow organically, by itself, once it has taken root in the heart of its people. VÅNNA INGETS music speaks volumes. It was clear from the opening track of "Allvar" and even more so with the band's second album. Produced by Jari Haapalainen (THE BEAR QUARTET, KAJSA GRYTT, INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY, ELDKVARN...) in legendary "Varispeed Studios" where THE HIVES recorded most of their records, the band recorded everything in the best, the old school way... drums, guitars, organ, bass and vocals live straight down on 2" 16 ch tape. Where "Allvar" found power in its urgent and relentless delivery, "Ingen Botten" is a more nuanced affair. Sharp guitar riffs and shimmering organ melodies are woven together with an attentive and dynamic rhythm section. The band has also taken down the tempo in places and left room to move within the arrangements. But above all , there is a refined approach that goes beyond merely changing for the sake of change. VÅNNA INGET knows where they stand and nurture their songs to a maturity that makes them unique in a meeting between raw, punkish nerve and melodic sensibility. They possess the ability to turn claustrophobic themes of confinement and desperation into something that feels uplifting and liberating.
Above all, Karolina Engdahl's vocals have grown to reach even higher levels of poignant intensity. She sings with a powerful, yet brittle, force. "Ingen Botten" fulfils the high expectations surrounding Vånna Inget during the two years since their debut. An album that broadens their scope and works its way deeper into the essence of what VÅNNA INGET truly is.

150 Gram BLACK VINYL.

4TH FULL LENGTH STUDIO ALBUM GARAGE-ROCK POWER FROM PITTSBURGH, PA.'S FINEST.

Learn to Lose by The Cynics

This is the moody 1993 followup to the critically acclaimed Rock ‘N’ Roll album and is the 4th full-length studio effort overall for Pittsburgh’s finest. To End All Worth, the band’s debut album, is the culmination of years of basement-forged craftsmanship, when few were listening but the rats in the walls. The hard work the band put in hammering out these songs has manifested in a record that is beautiful and lasting, as sure of itself in its instrumentals as it is neurotically self-critical in its lyrics. This is a style of melodic punk rarely played anymore—raw, imperfect, threadbare, dizzying, sincere—passed over in favor of the fest-ready, social-media savvy, astroturfed pseudo-grunge that passes for “indie punk” these days. The politics on To End All Worth are deeply rooted in interconnected, intersectional experiences, and grapple with the personal pain of gender issues, race, class, and family— but you wouldn’t know it if you weren’t paying attention. In an age when “the next big thing” is born and then discarded with a careless flick of the thumb, Brave Hands have quietly delivered an album worthy of being remembered decades from now." - Sadie Smith (G.L.O.S.S., Dyke Drama, Peeple Watchin', etc)
2018. Black vinyl. (with an opening cameo from John Brannon) is the 7th album in Bim’s astonishing unbeaten streak that began with 2011’s ‘I’m Bleeding Now’ and shows no immediate sign of ending. While Thomas’ past genre-defying works have brazenly taken a torch to such record store bin cards as “punk”, “psych”, “hip hop”, “funk”, “new arrivals” and “MISC. O”, ‘Niggative Approach’ is his most bold, fully realized statement to date. There’s no one in what’s left of the underground with a sharper take on the ties that bind these genres, and no eyewitness to the nation-going-to-shit as quick to stand up and throw down than Obnox. If you wanna settle for half steps, by all means, be our guest, but ’Niggative Approach’ shouldn’t merely challenge you to imagine the possibilities, but maybe even get your hands dirty in making them happen.

They’ve all been bold expressions of his wide vision. But his third, 2014’s Louder Space, was a true breakthrough. The hip-hop and R&B strains that course beneath his noisy one-man garage rock came into sharper focus on that record, his first made in a proper studio. It also showed that Thomas could delve deeper into specific sides of his persona—in this case, by crafting legit rap jams—without sacrificing the many styles of which he’s capable. The three Obnox albums that Thomas made after Louder Spacewere solid and diverse, but *Niggative Approach feels like its true spiritual follow-up. The album is heavily focused on beats—Thomas has drummed in many vital Cleveland post-punk outfits—and filled with earworm-ready grooves. If Louder Space was his hip-hop album, Niggative Approach is his funk platter, bubbling with big bass lines and filled with studio touches like horn sections and keyboard accents. There’s still a lot of punk spirit here; the album’s title nods to hardcore legends Negative Approach, whose singer John Brannon opens and closes the album with spoken exhortations to Thomas. But Niggative Approach is first and foremost about groove. Many of Thomas’s grooves are so simple and powerful they feel instantly classic, as if he plucked them from some hidden vault of magic funk tricks. They also help create some of the most upbeat music he’s ever made. After Brannon’s brief invocation, *Niggative Approach *opens with three tracks ripe for blasting from car windows while cruising down beachside strips. “Hardcore Matinee” is positively bouncy, while “Jack Herer” sounds like a dream take on Curtis Mayfield's "Freddie's Dead." “State to State” soars on a funky guitar line, chiming keyboard chords, and Thomas’s multi-voiced hums. Things even get romantic during “Carmen, I Love You,” a groove-ballad that Thomas could’ve sung while lying on the grass staring at clouds.

---------------------------

Genre bending at its finest. Lamont Thomas, the one-man band that is Obnox, creates a deep, heady stew of noise, punk, funk, hip-hop, and R&B that is somehow polished as much as it is complete chaos. The album opens with a sample from Negative Approach’s John Brannon—hence the play on the album title and song title—and slowly, song by song, steeps into a deep trance of thick bass, a spattering of horns, keyboard synth, and Parliament-esque funk. It’s punk yet also completely not punk, and it’s dumbfounding how seamlessly lines get blurred. This particular album continues Thomas’s evolution into broad, spacey territory that is undeniably diverse. It can speak to many different audiences, and it’s totally enthralling. -- Razorcake

Poison Idea - Pick Your King E.P. Never has their talent been more on display than on the new LP. Those who had the chance to listen to advance demos say it is probably the best Cynics record ever, on par with their classic "Rock'n'Roll" LP. It was recorded in early 2007 in Gijon (Spain) at Circo Perrotti Studios, and counts with the collaboration of the members of Doctor Explosion, Jorge, Pibli and Kaplan as well as other great guest musicians. Kastelic and Kostelich came out of the Punk Rock Movement in their early teens and into the Real Punk world of Garage rock during the mid-eighties. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, they have been at the forefront of this scene for more than 20 years now. Along with The Fuzztones, The Lyres, and The Chesterfield Kings, The Cynics have always been regarded as garage rock royalty. Kostelich still owns and runs the Garage rock label Get Hip. Kastelic's wailing screams, his on and offstage antics, and his legendary tequila consumption have made an impression on points all over the globe. credits released October 16, 2007 THE CYNICS Gregg Kostelich (Electric And Acoustic Guitars, Lead and Backing vocals) Michael Kastelic (Lead vocals, Electric piano, Harmonica) Pablo Piblatovic (Drums, backing vocals) Angel Kaplanovich (Bass, backing vocals) Jorge Explosion: electric guitar, bass, backing vocals Parlsley the Lion: organ Chus Naves: Piano on Courtney Kiko Flores: Baritone and Alto Sax Miguel Herrero: Trumpets Recorded and mixed at Circo Perrotti Studios 03/07 Mastered by: George Ingram in Nashville, TN Produced by: Jorge Explosion

Rock for Light is the second full-length album by Bad Brains, released in 1983. Built around an insistent guitar riff, the centre piece is an old school rap rightly listing the achievements of Afro-Americans but despite those successes, Jerry asserts that little has changed even though we’re well into the 21st century. He returns to the theme in the self-explanatory ‘Prejudice Is Alive And Well’ – a bluesy, hard-hitting item that tells it like it is for so, so many disadvantaged.

Points made, Jerry’s been in the game long enough to know that an unrelenting diet of “misery songs” doesn’t make for a balanced album so he rightly tempers the social commentary with lighter songs that highlight his trademark storytelling and wry humour. Best of those is the man’s sideways tribute to Sly Stone…. ‘Where Is Sly’. Jerry lists Mr Stone’s achievements…. even comparing him to Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and James Brown but wonders just what he’s doing now; “is he off somewhere still getting high?”.

The album’s other light moments include a pleasing ‘Hey Renae’ and a lovely ‘I’m So Happy’. Fans of southern soul will delight in the ballad ‘What Lonesome Is’ and the more up-tempo ‘Light A Candle, Ring A Bell’.

The album also boats a trio of covers that hark back to Swamp’s roots. The chosen tunes are the Clovers ‘Your Cash Ain’t Nothing But Trash’, the Robins’ ‘Smokey Joe’s Cafe’ and Sam Cooke’s ‘You Send Me’. All are respectful to the originals but marked by this singer’s gruffer, grittier delivery.

‘The White Man Made Me Do It’ gets 2015 off to a great and soulful start and to make the set even more special the album comes with a bonus disc that offers 10 of Swamp’s best oldies – three of his own songs and seven he worked on as either writer and/or producer. No duds at all and amongst the highlights are Doris Duke’s ‘To The Other Woman’, Irma Thomas’ ‘In Between the Tears’ and Charlie Whitehead’s ‘Read Between the Lines’. The Swamp Dogg sides are, well, typically Swamp Dogg – amongst them ‘Fuck The Bomb Stop The Drugs’ and what could be his autobiography, ‘My Life Ain’t Nothing But a Blues Song’.

In 1970, Southern soul music maverick Jerry Williams, Jr. made the most radical move of his career. Frustrated with music business politics Williams reinvented himself as Swamp Dogg, an irreverent antihero smashing the conventions of commercial R&B music. Swamp Dogg's debut release Total Destruction to Your Mind featured a post-apocalyptic take on the Muscle Shoals’ sound, with lyrics inspired by the revolutionary politics and psychedelic drugs of the late '60s. The music on Total Destruction to Your Mind stood worlds apart from the formulaic pop tunes Williams started cutting in 1954 under the name Little Jerry, and Swamp Dogg hasn’t looked back since. But the music business wasn’t ready for Swamp Dogg, nor was the rest of America. His bizarre album titles and wild cover art turned the average consumer off, while his subversive lyrics earned him a spot on Richard Nixon's infamous enemies list. Swamp Dogg was not deterred. He seemed to relish operating from the margins of the music business, consequently becoming one of the quintessential outsider figures in American music.

Mark Deming:

Legendary eccentric soul man Swamp Dogg (aka Jerry Williams Jr.) has been celebrated as the inspired lunatic of old-school R&B ever since he unveiled his persona on the 1970 classic Total Destruction to Your Mind, but with the passage of time, the Dogg actually sounds saner than the average man in the 21st century, even though he's as bold and outspoken as ever. The White Man Made Me Do It is full of Swamp Dogg's thoughts on race, which is fitting for an album that was recorded in 2014, a year that saw the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner bring a new urgency to America's discussion of the uneasy relationship between African-Americans, whites, and state power; while Swamp Dogg never mentions either case in his lyrics, he has plenty to say about the pros and cons of being black in America.
