Not too many jazz recordings would likely please me and plenty of fans of jazz too, but along with lots of great horn playing fueling the fire, more importantly for someone like me, this is powered along with badass bass and percussion, and as the title points out, these rhythms come straight out of Africa. Originally released in 1975 in small amounts on vanished german Spiegelei label.
A long lasting stay in Africa inspired Lou Blackburn to form Mombasa, with which he toured successfully since 1973 throughout Europe and introduced a program of ethnic Africa-orientated Jazz.

Profile:
American jazz trombonist (born November 12, 1922 in Rankin ,Pennsylvania; died June 7, 1990 in Berlin, Germany). In the 1950s he played with Lionel Hampton and Charlie Ventura. In the early 1960s he began performing in the West Coast jazz and soul jazz genres with musicians like Cat Anderson and Charles Mingus. He worked also as session musician with appearances on recordings by the Turtles, the Righteous Brothers, and the Beach Boys among others. In 1970 he went to Europe, living first in Germany, then in Switzerland. He founded the Afro-pop ensemble Mombasa, and also played in the Krautrock band Agitation Free.
